In the Qur’an, there are يا آدمُ، يا داوودُ، يا عيسىٰ، يا موسىىٰ، يا زكريَّا، يا يحيىٰ، يا إبراهيمُ. There’s something cool about this. This is all from the Qur’an and most of these is Allah talking to these prophets. So He says : “Ya Adam, enter yourself and your spouse into heaven.” “Ya Dawud, we have made you khalifah.” “Ya Isa, I’m taking you away.” “Ya Musa, what is in your right hand.” “Ya Zakariya, we’re giving you good news of a boy you’re going to have.” “Ya Yahya, hold on to the book with all your might, hold on to the law of Allah with all your might.” “Ya Ibrahim, you fulfill your promise (when he was willing to sacrifice his son)”
But we don’t find in the Qur’an يا محمد, that doesn’t happen. He’s the prophet that Allah talks about more than any other prophets. He’s the one that Allah talking to him all the time. But, you don’t find يا محمد. What you find areيا أيها النبي، يا أيها الرسول، يا أيها المزمّل، يا أيها المدثر . It’s pretty powerful. Allah never used his name. And the thing is 'أيها' is used when you wanna call somebody like an a word not a name and it’s more powerful than just calling someone by name and more respectful in some cases.
Allah could have said to His prophet, يا رسول، يا نبي، يا مزمل، يا مدثر، يا محمد., but He used none of these. He spoke to His prophet يا أيها النبي، يا أيها الرسول، يا أيها المزمّل، يا أيها المدثر. Never ever calling him by his name. Allah calling him by his titles. (Prophet)يا أيها النبي ,(Messenger) يا أيها الرسول (The one wrapped in the blanket)يا أيها المزمل , (The one covered up)يا أيها المدثر.
Rasulullah was terrified, was wrapped up in blanket, was shivering from fear when he was saw angel Jibril, and Allah saidيا أيها المزمل . Allah said, “The one covered up, raised, warn.” Look at how Allah talked to Rasulullah. He recognized the fear Rasul was feeling, shivers Rasul was feeling, He didn’t just say “raise!”, like there’s so much love in those words and there’s so much respect. Nobody ever calls somebody (The one covered in blanket!)يا أيها المزمل . And then Allah used أيها on top of that.
And what’s even more incredible is, Allah called other prophets by their name, but here Allah refused to call His final prophet by his name, he always called him by a title.
There was a story about some people who called Prophet Muhammad by his name. Some people want to meet Prophet SAW and they wanted to meet him, they wanted to become muslim. Their whole tribe wanted to become muslim. So they thought they were doing Islam a huge favor because if a whole tribe becomes muslim, hundreds of people instantaneously add to the cause of Islam. So they came to meet with the Prophet but he wasn’t coming out of the house yet, he was doing something at home. So they’re outside, they didn’t have knocks back then, they just used to call people from the outside. They were waiting for him, they don’t know proper manners yet. All the other shahabah, they used to call him 'Messenger of Allah’ (يا رسول الله), nobody called him ‘Muhammad’. But these guys, these newbies, they came and they said “Ya Muhammad! Come out, we wanna talk to you.” Qur’an and shahabah never used يا محمد. Even though Muhammad isn’t a bad name, but Allah set a different standard for how to respect Prophet SAW and this was below that standard. Allah reveals Qur’an to answer that. So Allah says about them “People who are calling you from outside your house, most of them have no idea,” before that Allah says “You better not call him the way you call each other, because if you do, all the good deeds you’ve ever done will be taken away and you won’t even know.” That’s how serious it is, to not show enough respect to Muhammad, Rasulullah SAW.
So, even when Qur’an does used the word محمد, which it uses four times and then once it uses أحمد (In surah As-Saf). Whenever it does used محمد, it mentions Rasulullah, 3 times explicitly (In surah Al-Fath, surah Al-Ahzab, surah Ali-Imran) and one time implicitly (In surah Muhammad). The word Muhammad is used there, but it says revelation that came to him, meaning he’s a messenger by revelation. Allah used his name then He mentions his title or his great honorable role every single time and that’s a great honor he’s given to our Prophet SAW. Subhanallah.
